A new update of Abyss Web Server X1 released for testing

February 10, 2003

Aprelium Technologies is proud to announce the availability for testing of a new update of Abyss Web Server X1 (version 1.1.4 Beta 1 for Windows.)

This update is still not suitable for production environments. Please use it only for test purposes.

This update adds the following features:

  • Improved SSI engine: SSI pages are processed faster.
  • Better compliance with Windows XP.
  • Minimum password length has been decreased to 5.
  • Directory listing has been updated: file names in directory listing are no more restricted to 24 characters. Besides it uses the default font of the browser for better readability.

The update includes also several bug fixes:

  • The SSI bug that consists in deleting the line feeds in comments is fixed.
  • The bug that consists in the erasure of the configuration file under some rare conditions is now fixed.
  • The compatibility with some non-fully conformant HTTP/1.1 proxies has been improved. This leads to solving the problem of the headers appearing on top of HTML pages when Abyss Web Server is used in conjunction with such proxies.
  • Files with no extensions are correctly handled now. The bug that results in a server crash when accessing them is fixed.
  • The server now understands correctly file names and paths referring to Windows network shares.

Installation Packages:

Upgrading the Windows version:

To upgrade from the previous version, download Abyss Web Server X1 version 1.1.4 Beta 1 for Windows and run the installer. It will detect the presence of an older version and will ask you to uninstall it. Once the old version removed, the installer will setup the new one.

CAUTION: Be careful and read all the on-screen dialog boxes. In fact, the uninstaller will ask you if you want to remove Abyss Web Server's setup directory. You must answer NO to keep your web site and your configuration file.

About the Linux version:

There is no Linux version released for testing now. A Linux version will be released when the final Windows version will be available.
