hi there, i just set up my new debian on my xbox and wanted to run a wiki/irc/voice-server on it for LANs aso. , so a friend told me of abyss. i followed the instructions and first it worked without any problems. as i wanted to add php in the webfrontend-console something strange happened; there was a timeout and as often i tried to access the console and the site nothing happened (both from the localhost and from the lan)
pings allright and my putty tells my the abyss running allright. the strange thing is, sometimes it works and sometimes there`s nearly nothing dropping out from the server. another thing is, if i try to access the site/console it waits and waits, but recognizes, if i kill the server... hm...
i got another 4 pcs running all on winxp prof - sp2 in my lan and its the same with all of them...
as abyss didn`t work quite right any more i tried to reinstall it (i removed it all and untared it again). the server says its running, but its the same again.
someone got a clue what this could be about? |

clockwork,
Are your browser set up to use a proxy? If this is the case, disable proxy use for local addresses.
Otherwise, try installing another browser (for example Opera) to do the tests with it.
If all that does not help, please give us the browser you're using and the full error message you're getting (and the URL that you were browsing). _________________ Support Team

hiho, thx for the quick reply :-)
every browser in my network is set to direct connection to the net, no proxy.
i tried with firefox 1.5.0.6 , firefox 2.0 , IE 6.
when browsing with the IE i get always a window (on every port...) to enter a login.
when browsing with firefox it connects and then ...loads... til the morning and when there`s nothing received, the error message is;
"Die Verbindung zum Server wurde zurückgesetzt, während die Seite geladen wurde." (e.g. the connection to the server has been set back, while the site was loading)
i already have a ftp-server and a voice-server running on the box and have no problems connecting to them from in- and outside of the lan. i have a router, which updates dyndns everytime i got a drop from my isp.
in fact, i`m browsing http://192.168.x.x or http://192.168.x.x:9999 for the console. the strange thing is, if i`m browsing for the console, both from in- and/or outside i always get the login window, but then again it`s loading to nirvana and nothing is to be seen. |
