|
|
Complete newbie here, looking for help!
I have set up the server so that I can view it on my local network.
I want to be able to view the web page from outside of the network. I don't want others to be able to view it, just me. Can anyone tell me, step by step if possible, how I do this? Thanks, much appreciated. |

We will need a bit more information to give a good solution:
* Do you have a fixed IP address for your internet connection?
* Does your webserver have a fixed IP in your local network?
* What type of router are you using?
* Do you want access to your website to be restricted by IP address or login?
There are several ways to accomplish what you want. Have you thought about using a VPN to your homenetwork? This way you don't have to open up your site to the internet at all. _________________ https://www.arnauddeklerk.com

* Yes have a fixed IP address.
* Yes web server has a fixed IP address
* It is a Sky router
* Restricted by IP address
I hadn't thought of a VPN. it is a possibility, though I was hoping not to spend any more money if possible.
Many thanks. |

Having given this more thought, I think this would be the best way to go (Using a VPN). Can you please tell me how to view the web server from outside the network using a VPN? thanks! |

Hi
If I used a VPN, what would be the steps for just me being able to view the web server outside of the LAN?
I am currently using a dns service that means I couldn't use a VPS so it would need to not use DNS I guess? |

When using a VPN, you are inside the LAN even if you connect from a remote computer. A VPN makes a local network and a remote computer both connected "locally" and the remote computer would behave as if it was inside the local network. _________________ Follow @abyssws on Twitter

Thanks appreciated. I do need a lot more information though to begin to do it. Can you or anyone point me to websites I can read about how to do it?
I have a VPN on my laptop at the moment, and thats just for when I am online. But I dont see how using a VPN to access your own server works, so that your the only one who can see it / do it. Confused. |

We suggest checking the documentation of the VPN that you have or contacting the company which released it. They can help you effectively with their product and offer support for it. _________________ Follow @abyssws on Twitter
