|
|
I have a server that is online to receive and process hits from outside. Port forwarding on my router is set to forward incoming port 80 hits to it.
On my local network, I have another machine that I'm using to work out configurations for a cgi app. I can work on that machine itself and process hits perfectly using an edited hosts file and URLs like rnd.local. What I've been unable to accomplish is hitting it from another machine on the local network.
The local IP address is 192.168.50.246 and that gets me an Abyss 403 error, so I'm reaching the machine and Abyss. But I can't get any further and hit any of the sites on it.
Any ideas of what modification to the URL would do it? _________________ Jim |

James Cook,
Before DNS was invented in the mid-80s, network admins connected to ARPANET used to share the HOSTS file updated with new entries and their IPs.
You still can use the same idea on your local network in 2021. :)
So create a hosts file with a line such as:
Code: | 192.168.50.246 rnd.local |
Use that same hosts file on all your computers in the local network. Now declare a host in Abyss Web Server with the host name rnd.local and access it using http://rnd.local . _________________ Follow @abyssws on Twitter
