I was waiting for HTTP2 support before I was planning to upgrade to X2, but as my host-provider has decided in triple the pricing of my hosting plans, I've decided to seriously look into moving all my hosting to my server here at home.
This week I've some some testing and I must say that I was quite positivly suprised at how wel X1 handles itself on relativly old/slow hardware. I've installed Windows 10 Pro with X1 on a Celeron J1900 with 4GByte of memory and did some stresstests which all went quite fine.
One thing I was wondering about. If I make a daily backup of the directory Abyss is installed in (Let's say X:\Abyss). If in case of a crash/dead SSD/whatever, will it be enough to re-install X2 on a freshly installed system, Re-Install PHP, stop X2, copy the old directoy back and restart X2 to get it working again with the same settings?
Or is there an easier way to achieve this? _________________ https://www.arnauddeklerk.com

Hello tfh. You would likely want to reinstall Abyss. Stop the server (executable or service - depending on how you have it starting up). Then copy your abyss.conf file to the new installation. If everything else matches up (drive letters and web docs folder location, php location, etc.), restart the server and you'll be good to go.
If you've ever toyed with the idea of running Abyss on Linux or would like to learn how, check out my site --> https://abyssvids.pksml.net _________________ Stephen

To make your life easy, try installing everything inside the same directory X:/WWW for example:
X:\WWW\abyss
X\WWW\PHP
X:\WWW\Sites\Site1
X:\WWW\Sites\Site2
...
Neither Abyss Web Server no PHP requires installation run. A simple copy/paste deployment is usually sufficient.
The only problem is with MySQL which requires installation and backing up its data is a bit complex (not a simple file backup.) _________________ Follow @abyssws on Twitter

Hi pkSML & admin,
Thank you both very much for the advice. Especially the idea of putting everything into one direcory is... well... simply perfect. Sincy my websites only need .PHP (and no MySQL) it's the perfect solution.
I've considered using Linux and I'd be able to get it up and running, but... if I mess things up I will not be able to repair it I'm afraid and with Windows that won't be any problem. And with a few hundred visitors a day I don't want to spend a couple of days getting Linux and my sites up & running again.
Thanks, I know what to do know. _________________ https://www.arnauddeklerk.com
