Greetings and Thanks for being here....
I've installed Abyss Webserver X1 on my system which is running Windows Me.
It appears to be running fine according to what it shows (which I've cut and pasted immediately below).
Console local URL: http://127.0.0.1:9999
-- Default host on port 80 is up and running (Local URL http://127.0.0.1)
Console local URL: http://127.0.0.1:9999
I've also gone to http://www.abyssunderground.co.uk/ip.php and it showed the following regarding whether or not I'm behind a proxy, which apparently isn't the case.
"It was detected that you are NOT behind a proxy.
Your Real IP Address is: 68.61.239.177
Your Real DNS is: pcp08418435pcs.watrfd01.mi.comcast.net"
You should also know that I'm working on a remote/wireless access point of a netgear router setup. The router is hooked up to my computer in the basement and I'm working on the one upstairs which is using the Netgear USB Adapter.
I have copied a sample webpage named "index.html" into the subdirectory "htdocs" of the c:/Program Files/Abyss Web Server/ directory and am able to view it if I use the url "http://127.0.0.1" (without the :9999 or :80) and can view it when using the url "localhost". Unfortunately, when I try and view it by going to http://angelgeeks.com or http://www.angelgeeks.com it brings up a screen that says:
"This unit is password protected"
"Please enter the correct password to access the web pages"
A box is there to enter a password and a button below that which reads:
"Activate". I've tried putting in different passwords to no avail.
Note: I only recently changed the DNS information at Godaddy which is my registrar to the the DNS information for Zoneedit.com. It is showing it's been changed at both places.
I honestly don't know where that request for a password is coming from i.e. zonedit, abyss, etc. and am not sure how to reset it or where to go from here.
I've tried going through links to tutorials etc. and searching the board but am still at a loss. I know I have obviously missed something and was hoping to get some advice.
In addition, if someone knows of a tutorial I can use which shows in image format, the actual step by step setup and an "if-then-else" troubleshooting guide, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! |

angelgeeks,
Your router seems to not support loopback. Search loopback here on this forum for more information and similar posts. _________________ Support Team

Thanks! Will do. I'm also going to look at Port Forwarding. |

I think I'm getting a little closer to figuring this problem out.
It appears that my VOIP service "SunRocket.com" with their "GIZMO"is what is prompting the message "This unit is password protected".
The default password was "welcome" which when entered allowed me to go into a Sunrocket VOIP Gateway (although the url was still http://www.angelgeeks.com/index.htm)
This Gateway allows me to make changes with the WAN, LAN, and other settings. Unfortunately, after resetting the password it allows me to access it again without entering a password so I'm afraid that anyone can go into the Gateway and mess up my settings. Suggestions???
Hopefully, I will be still be able to get the Abyss Web Server X1 to work despite this glitch. If anyone else has had a similar problem, I'd be interested in hearing how youd dealt with it.
Any further suggestions would be appreciated. |

Sounds like the 'gizmo' doesn't support loopback. If you set up port forwarding in there it should work fine for everyone else using your IP, you will have to use your local IP or use a hosts file workaround. Search the forum for loopback / hosts file for more details - it has been covered plenty of times before... _________________
